What is Virus? Why it Corrupt Software (.exe) File
A piece of code that damage remaining code of the program is called computer virus.
Therefore, software files consist on codes (statements written in C or C++ language). Viruses interact with these codes and corrupt software setup file.
Long time ago, I had some software setup files in my computer. That’s was my favorite programs but they all corrupted due to virus. As you know, when we reinstall windows operating system in our pc, all programs and applications deleted that were installed in previous windows. At this time, we need to install programs like VLC Media Player and we have setup file in the hard disk. When we double click on the setup file to install the program, the windows show following message:
Windows NSIS Error Message
“The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.
You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.”
This problem can be solve through CMD program to skip this check using the /NCR command line switch. But it is quite harmful for the pc and installed program (by this method) may not work properly.
How Antivirus Programs Treat with Corrupted setup file of any Software
If we have installed antivirus program in our computer, then corrupted setup file of any software will be deleted or moved to virus chest. You can see in the below screenshot:-
I have Avast Antivirus installed in my computer. As you saw, when I tried to install Type Faster program’s setup file it showed above message. Program setup file was corrupted due to virus, so avast antivirus moved that setup file in virus chest.
After this windows show me following message:-
“Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.”
Method of protecting Software from virus
It’s my personal experience through which I protect software’s setup files from virus.
As you may know, keeping programs file in hard disk (with .exe extension) prey to virus in very less time. We can say virus love with .exe .dll .com files instead of other files available in hard disk (i.e. songs file mp3 or mp4). Keep in mind that virus attacks only programs files or those files that or consists on codes. So, we can save programs files from virus by changing their file extension. For this purpose, a number of applications or tools are available in the market. But, I’ll not recommend you any heavy tool, I suggest you very thinner tool that is only 1.5 MB. The name of this tool is “WinRAR” and it is mostly installed in computers. If you have not installed yet, download WinRAR from the below link:
Actually we are talking about compress programs files by adding in WinRAR Archive. Through this method, programs setup file protected from virus.
After installing WinRAR into your pc, select software setup file which do you want to protect from virus.
Right click on setup file and select “Add to Archive”. WinRAR window will open like below:
Click on ok button. Your file will be archived in .rar file. Now, whenever you would like to install that program just extract that archived file.
In archiving options you can also:-
· Delete files after archiving
· Create SFX archive
· Create solid archive
· Add recovery record
· Test archive files
· Lock archive
Now you have converted .exe file into .rar file. This .rar file is protected from virus and virus can’t attack on this file. By this method you can protect your favorite software’s setup files.
Best of luck.
